The small group of governors will advise the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the White House Homeland Security Council on matters related to the National Guard and civil support missions. Congress created the Council in 2007 and it was formally established last year. Governor Mead is one of five Republicans on the Council. "I am very proud of the men and women who serve in our National Guard and as Commander-in-Chief of the Wyoming National Guard I am honored to be able to advocate for our troops in conversation with the Department of Defense and with other governors," Governor Mead said. The first meeting for the Council of Governors takes place Tuesday, March 1st at the Pentagon. |
