Governor Mead proclaims January as Wyoming Mentoring Month

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Matt Mead signed a proclamation today, declaring January as Wyoming Mentoring Month. January 25th is Thank Your Mentor Day.

To mark the occasion representatives of the Greater Wyoming Big Brothers Big Sisters organization came to the State Capitol. This included several Big Brothers, Little Brothers and Little Sisters.

The proclamation reads in part, “Whereas, mentors are an important part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, where research has shown that children engaged in the one-to-one, professionally supported mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters are more likely to finish high school and less likely to begin using drugs and alcohol, skip school, or be involved in violence… Now, therefore, I, Matthew H. Mead, Governor of the State of Wyoming, do hereby proclaim January 2011, as “WYOMING MENTORING MONTH” and encourage all citizens, businesses, public and private agencies, religious and educational institutions to join the mentoring program and nominate a mentor at BigBrothersBigSisters.org.”
