OFFICE OF GOVERNOR MATT MEAD
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – To celebrate the important partnership between Wyoming and Canada, Governor Matt Mead and Acting Canadian Consul General Ladan Amirazizi will co-host the Eighth Annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Barbeque Reception on Thursday, July 26. It takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and includes partners Encana Oil & Gas (USA) and Suncor Energy. Invited guests include Wyoming’s political, business and community leaders. It will be held during Cheyenne Frontier Days at the Sponsors’ Tent in Frontier Park.
The United States and Canada have the largest bilateral trading relationship in the world. Since the implementation of the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement in 1989, two-way trade in goods and services has more than doubled. Based on 2011 data, total two-way trade in goods and services between Canada and the United States reached $689 billion and supported more than 8 million U.S. jobs, including 9,800 jobs in Wyoming alone (Statistics Canada). Seventeen Canadian-owned companies in Wyoming employ 502 people. The same year, two-way merchandise trade between Canada and Wyoming totaled $2 billion, making Canada the Cowboy State’s largest trading partner, purchasing more of Wyoming’s exports than any other country.
The purpose of the reception is to grow this mutually beneficial political and economic relationship, as well as engage area leaders to discuss opportunities for increasing trade and investment between Wyoming and Canada. The Consulate General of Canada in Denver actively engages Wyoming’s political and community leaders to raise awareness about Canada's leadership position on bilateral issues, such as border security, trade and North American energy security.
